About Us

In 2000, Brits Jim and Lucy Fisher and their then eight year old daughter, Jenny, moved to the Dordogne, SW France, to set up a cookery school offering cooking lessons to locals and travellers alike.

Despite the locals' bemusement at the idea of an Englishman teaching anyone to cook, not least in France, CookinFrance became a huge success taking students from all over the world - including France!

Sixteen years later, Jim and Lucy returned to the UK, to the place they first met and fell in love, in Exeter, offering cooking lessons in Devon - the county of their roots - and raring to go with the successor to CookinFrance: Exeter Cookery School. Their new cookery school was an instant success, both for giving people the chance to learn how to cook the way they have always dreamed, but also giving corporate and private groups the chance to enjoy a unique culinary experience in a sophisticated waterside setting.

Testimonials

Friendly and Professional Guidance

Thank you all for a wonderful afternoon and evening. We had great fun and really enjoyed ourselves. To have the chance to be creative outside the property world with our newly found cookery skills made it a very successful team building exercise. Jim's friendly and professional guidance was both informative and great fun. We were all surprised how good it all tasted at the end of the day and it was a great way to finish by enjoying the dishes we made with a few glasses of wine around the dinner table. We will certainly be back.

Awesome Day

I spent the day here on the French Dessert making course today, what a warm and welcoming place to attend! Jim and Lucy made us feel completely at ease, despite us being absolute amateurs in a very professional environment! I can't wait to book my next course with you in the New Year, thank you both for an awesome day!

Beautifully Equipped

The premises are beautifully equipped. I have learnt so many new techniques & recipes and all in a relaxed fun environment. I can't recommend it highly enough & will be booking more courses in the future.

Highly Skilled Teacher

Jim is a highly skilled teacher, as well as a chef, providing tips and guidance in a humorous way which enabled the 7 students in my group to produce a range of bread products I think we were all proud of. We all happily helped and encouraged each other and felt like friends by the end of the day. The pace is good - lots gets done but it is not pressurised and there are plenty of chances to be individual and creative. A really rewarding all weather experience developing some of those useful little life skills!
